On January 7th, 1988, Michael Cretu married Sandra Ann Lauer with
whom he had been working next to for several years. Sandra, from Germany,
had enjoyed tremendous success at an early age, especially in Japan
where the group she was part of had their biggest following. She
was born on May 18, 1962, and she received music instruction from when
she was about 10 years old. She was only 16 when joining the group
known as Arabesque. Michael Cretu was building experience in the
industry, working for many well-known artists, and in 1982 his path
crossed with Sandra's and they would later fall in love. Together
they released some music with little success, but they soon got a group
built with solid musicians and composers, and in 1985 they released
'Maria Magdalena' from the upcoming album 'The Long Play'. It was a
big success in many countries. The group had determined to just call
themselves "Sandra" as she was the singer in the forefront.
Apart from Michael Cretu, many of the composers and musicians are still
involved, and Sandra still releases new singles and albums as of
2007. As an example, song-writer Jens Gad still helps produce and
compose for both Sandra and the Enigma project. In 1995 Sandra had twins
with Michael Cretu. As a result she took a break from music for several
years, and didn't formally return until 2002 with the album The Wheel of Time.
She has provided some vocals for the Enigma project.
