With Voyageur, Michael Cretu basically wiped the slate clean. As had been the case when MCMXC a.D. was released, he felt it was time for something new. Gone were the classic samples, the trademark instruments, and the often mysterious philosophical subtleties, and in was a more direct approach with all new ideas for the Enigma project. In many ways Voyageur is a step towards more modern culture that simply relies less on the sensual mystique that defines the older releases. Voyageur, by the way, is French and translates to traveller
, and that is also a fitting reference for the Enigma project that indeed went to another place here.
